2012 Highlights

More than 500 hydropower professionals Attend NHA's 2012 Annual Conference

More than 500 hydro professionals met the week of April 16 in Washington, D.C. at the 2012 National Hydropower Association Annual Conference. This year's conference theme was "The Future of Energy Is Clear."

The event, held at the Capital Hilton, brought together industry leaders, state and federal regulatory officials and key legislative staff to discuss technology, policy and future development options for the hydropower sector.

The NHA conference opening day included a special keynote address from Anne Castle, Assistant Secretary, Water and Science, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Energy.  The Opening Plenary Session also included remarks from featured speaker, Jose Zayas, Program Manager, Wind and Water Power Program.  Monday's event highlights also included Congressional Outreach Activities, NHA Member Committee meetings, the Opening Reception and an outing to the Washington Nationals baseball game.

On Tuesday morning, NHA welcomed keynote speaker Cheryl LaFleur, Commissioner, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The Tuesday morning plenary session also included a panel discussion titled: The Value of Hydropower to Transmission Planning and Policies.  The panel featured regulators and system operators who shared their perspectives about the value of hydro as a transmission reliability tool. David Moller, Director, Hydro Licensing and Compliance, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and NHA President delivered the address at Tuesday's President's Luncheon. His speech included an update on the state of the industry, the presentation of the Outstanding Stewards of America's Waters awards, and the unveiling of the Henwood winner, the industry's highest individual honor.  To read more about this year's Henwood award winner, click here.

In all, this year's NHA Annual Conference included more than 20 conference sessions and nearly 100 speakers. The National Hydropower Association would like to thank its industry supporters, sponsors, and conference attendees for making 2012 a success! We hope to see you next year!
